Create a New Configuration

Creating a new configuration is quick and easy in TinyTERM for iPad. To get started, touch the plus sign next to the Configurations title:

At this point you'll need your connection specifics. At a minimum, you need the Hostname or IP address of the server, and the communications Protocol and Emulation Type the server requires. If you're using the SSH protocol, you need the Username as well.

There are no generic settings that will work for these options. Each is specific to a given server, as determined by the server administrator.

Once you have the necessary information, enter a Name that describes the connection. This is how you'll identify the particular configuration in the list of connections.

Connection

Enter the Hostname, then select the Protocol and Emulation Type. For SSH, enter the Username also. Telnet connections do not use the Username.

The default Port is determined by the Protocol: 22 for SSH, 23 for telnet. On some systems, these do not use default values as an added security measure. In that case, you'll need to enter the correct Port as well.

Terminal Emulator Settings

Select the emulation required by your host system and application. The optional Terminal Type String causes TinyTERM to report a terminal type other than the one selected. More information on that is in our Knowledge Base.

The Backspace Sends DEL switch determines the action of the ⌫ key. In the OFF position, the key sends a backspace (ASCII 8). The ON position causes it to send DEL (ASCII 127) instead.

The default Code Page works for most English-language hosts. For more information on code pages, please refer to our white paper.

The UTF8 Decoding switch enables and disables UTF-8 interpretation of data. It's required for virtually all Linux hosts, and is used by most modern UNIX flavors as well. If there's a problem with graphics display on some screens, change this setting first.

Ignore Graphics Parity causes TinyTERM to treat the connection as 7-bit, using only characters between hex 00-7E. This option corrects character display when 8-bit ASCII must be interpreted. UTF8 Decoding and Ignore Graphics Parity are not normally used together.

SSH Settings

There is one other option for SSH connections: whether or not to use an SSH key. This is not used for telnet. For more information on SSH keys, please see the Manage SSH Keys online user guide.

Saving the Configuration

When finished, touch the Configurations button to save the new configuration and return to the main "Configurations" screen. Or touch the Connect button to save the configuration and connect immediately.

Once a configuration is saved, you can launch it by selecting the name, then touching the Connect button.
