Wrong Printer Listed

Friday, April 20th, 2007

The TinyTERM 4.20 Printer Setup dialog will show the wrong printer on Windows NT 4.0, no matter which one is selected. If there is only one printer installed in Windows, this does not happen. It is fixed in TinyTERM 4.21.

Printer Setup Dialog Fails After Print Screen

Friday, April 20th, 2007

The Printer Setup dialog fails in TinyTERM 4.20 after printing the screen in Windows 95 or 98. When this happens, the wrong printer will show in the Printer Setup drop-down list as well. This is fixed in TinyTERM 4.21.

TERM for Linux Doesn’t Print Until Closed

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

TERM for Linux 6.2.5b will not release a transparent print job until TERM is closed. This was fixed in TERM for Linux 6.28.

Extra Carriage Return on Each Printed Line

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

When transparent printing to a file, TinyTERM 4.x appends an extra carriage return to each line. This was fixed in TinyTERM 4.30.

If you have TinyTERM 4.30 or higher, you may still see this behavior. When that happens, run this command at a UNIX shell prompt, then test printing again:

stty -onlcr

That will prevent the terminal from converting bare line feeds to carriage return/line feed pairs.

CR 208, fixed in TinyTERM 4.30

Transparent Print to LPT1: Does Nothing Until TinyTERM Closes

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

When transparent printing on Windows 2000 direct to LPT1:, the last page of the printout doesn’t print until you close TinyTERM. There is no patch or workaround for this.

On Windows 2000 we recommend you print to the Windows printer with the Bypass Printer Drivers option set. However, if you must print direct to device instead, this was fixed in TinyTERM 4.20.

Stopping Page Setup Dialog

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

When printing to the Windows printer in TinyTERM 4.x, the Page Setup dialog comes up for every print job. In TinyTERM 4.13 this was changed so that the Page Setup dialog only came up once, the first time you used a given printer in TinyTERM. To make changes between print jobs, you must go to the File menu and select Page setup.

TinyTERM 4.30 added a check box labeled Page Setup Every Print. If that is not checked, then the Page Setup dialog comes up only the first time a print job is sent to the selected printer. With that option checked, every print job produces a Page Setup dialog. This is helpful when each printout has separate requirements.

However, if you have Bypass Printer Drivers set, you can’t turn off Page Setup Every Print. The check box is checked, and the option is grayed out. This was fixed in TinyTERM 4.40.

If you have TinyTERM configured to print directly to a COM port, you will also get the Page Setup dialog regardless of other settings. The workaround for this is to configure a Windows printer on that COM port, then print to that Windows printer and bypass the printer drivers.

Flush Output to Printer

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

When the Printer Setup dialog box was revamped for TinyTERM 4.13, the Flush Output option was removed. It was re-added in the Transparent Print Only section of Printer Setup in TinyTERM 4.20.

Monitoring Printer Port

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

DOS versions of TinyTERM and TERM monitor the printer device and pause data flow when the device is busy. Printing resumes when the device is again available.

This feature was added to TinyTERM for Windows in version 4.13 with the inclusion of the Use printer fonts option in Printer Setup. TinyTERM 4.20 has a Bypass Printer Drivers option that does the same thing.

Transparent Print Loses Data and Runs Slowly

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Using any dot-matrix printers connected directly to an LPT port, in TinyTERM 4.x the print job is slow and loses data. The problem is in flow control between the PC and printer.

This was resolved in TinyTERM 4.13. There is no patch for earlier versions.

TinyTERM Hangs if Printer Is Offline

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

If you configure TinyTERM to print direct to device and the printer is offline, printing will cause TinyTERM to freeze. If you leave the printer online TinyTERM will function properly.

CR 6, fixed in TinyTERM 4.13
