Linux RPM Install

Friday, April 27th, 2007

TERM for Linux 6.27 and later versions include an RPM install file. TERM 6.2.5b for Linux did not.

The RPM install does not work on every version of Linux. For those that don’t accept such files, Century Software, Inc., has created kernel-specific installs.

./install: Solaris: does not exist

Friday, April 27th, 2007

TERM for Sun Solaris includes two cd commands in the install script, in the middle of the following if statement:

if [ $OSmajor = 5 ]
then
LASTMOD="28 Apr 95"
BIN_FILES="$BRANDIT"
cd Solaris
else
cd SunOS
fi

On the CD distribution of TERM for UNIX, neither “Solaris” nor “SunOS” exists during the install process. This makes the install script fail with the listed error. The workaround is to install TERM manually.

Can’t Create TTWeb Directory

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

When run in a terminal server environment, TinyTERM Thin Client (or TinyTERM Plus 4.40 or higher) creates a TTWeb directory in each user’s default directory path. If the user profile isn’t stored in Windows’ default install location, but on a different drive or UNC path, the attempt to create TTWeb fails with a “can’t create” message. You can click OK on that and continue in TinyTERM, but it will keep popping up.

Can’t Close .tpx File in Browser

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

When running TinyTERM inside a web browser, you can’t close the .tpx file itself. You must close the browser instead.

IBM3151 in TERM for UNIX/Linux

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Century Software, Inc., has had a request to add IBM3151 terminal emulation to TERM for UNIX/Linux. That has not been done thus far.

CR 358

TERM for UNIX Documentation

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

The TERM for UNIX manual does not describe how to use the TERM CD. It’s also out of date on supported UNIX flavors, and does not mention Linux, or the demo versions available for SCO UNIX and Linux.

The May 2007 release of the TERM for UNIX CD includes a PDF copy of the TERM for UNIX/Linux manual. It also includes a Quick Start Guide, similar to that available for TinyTERM. The hardcopy manual will no longer be available.

Saving Printer Settings in TinyTERM Web Server Client

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Century Software, Inc., has had a request to allow users to save their individual printer settings when using the TinyTERM Web Server Client. Printer settings are currently saved in the .tpx file, which is only available from the web server when using TinyTERM Web Server Client. Implementing this would require a substantial rewrite of the printer management code.

Nevertheless, this would be a useful function, as client users are not likely to have identical printer settings.

brand Causes Segmentation Fault on UnixWare 7.1.1

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

The TERM for UnixWare install fails with a segmentation fault on UnixWare 7.1.1. This is caused by the brand program that licenses TERM. The fault prevents /usr/bin/term from being serialized, making it unusable.

CR 300

Keyboard Locks at Login Prompt

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Configure TinyTERM Thin Client on Windows 2000 with Citrix Metaframe XP as a published application. Also configure it to establish connection on open. Occasionally TinyTERM will not accept keyboard input at the login prompt. Clicking Disconnect, then Connect fixes the problem. The problem can also be duplicated by disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly.

CR 299

Enabling uucp Causes TERM to Display Badly

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

On SCO UnixWare 7.1, if you enable uucp in the devices file, you can still use TERM. It will dial and connect normally, but the display is scrambled. No more than half a screen comes through visibly. If uucp is disabled, TERM works fine.
