LPD Install Option

Friday, April 20th, 2007

TinyTERM Plus 4.30 added an LPD server for Windows NT, 2000 and XP. However, there was no option not to install it. That was added in TinyTERM Plus 4.31.

TinyTERM Thin Client Won’t Install as Evaluation

Friday, April 20th, 2007

When installing TinyTERM Thin Client 4.30 from the tttc.zip file, it gives the error, “Your serial number does not match your activation key.” This is due to an invalid evaluation license in the file install.bat. It does not happen when using the tttc.exe file, nor when installing from CD.

The situation is reversed in TinyTERM Thin Client 4.31. In that version, the tttc.zip file installs without a problem. But the tttc.exe file gives the license error. TinyTERM Thin Client 4.33 does not have an evaluation problem.

Invalid TERM for UNIX Licenses

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Some TERM for UNIX licenses ending in “U3” fail when used to install the correct product. This happened in the January 2002 release of TERM 6.2.5b, and was fixed in the February 2002 release. If you are experiencing this problem, please contact Technical Support to get your serial number and activation key corrected.

CD Filenames Are Upper Case

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

All the file names in the TERM for UNIX/Linux portion of the combined CD are in upper case. Our documentation and install scripts refer to them in lower case. This was fixed in the January 2002 CD.

CR 279

Invalid NFS License

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Then NFS server and client included with TinyTERM Plus 4.12 give errors that the license is invalid. The same thing happens in TERM Professional 3.3 for Medical Manager. There is no patch for this.

CR 178, 4.12 fixed in TinyTERM Plus 4.20

Msvcrt40.dll Replaced by Older Version

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Installing TinyTERM Plus on Windows 2000 may produce the error, “Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your Windows 2000 Professional CDROM now.” This is a warning that the file C:\Windows\System32\Msvcrt40.dll was replaced during the TinyTERM install.

You can safely ignore this error. Clicking the Ignore button on the message does not have any negative repercussions

CR 173, fixed in TinyTERM Plus 4.20 .

TinyTERM Thin Client License Failure

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Some versions of TinyTERM Thin Client give the error, “Serial number does not match activation key” on install. This also happens with TinyTERM Web Server and TinyTERM Web Server Client in the same releases. It’s fixed in version 4.20.

User Interface Languages

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

TinyTERM 3.x and TERM 7.x for Windows allow the user to select a language during install. The install then copies the appropriate resource files for that language only. It applies to all TinyTERM or TERM menus and dialog boxes. Available languages include English, French, Spanish and Hungarian.

TinyTERM 4.00-4.05 only have an English-language menu system. French and German were added in TinyTERM 4.10. More languages were added in TinyTERM 4.31: Italian, Spanish, Polish and Portuguese. They can be changed on the fly from the View menu. Again, these languages apply to the menus and dialog boxes in TinyTERM.

The language within the emulator window is handled through code pages. The host system and TinyTERM must be using the same code pages, or the display will be incorrect.

CR 214, version 4.21 has language selector during install

/usr/term Already Serialized

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

This error means a serial number and activation key have already been applied to TERM. If it will not start, uninstall TERM, then reinstall it.

If that does not get rid of the error, you probably have the wrong serial number for your version of TERM. Contact Technical Support to verify your license information.

Drive Not Ready

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

When installing TinyTERM from a CD, you may see the error, “Drive not ready.” When this happens, try running the TinyTERM install from Start | Run. If that brings up the same error, try reading another CD in the same drive.

If other CDs will read properly, the TinyTERM CD is damaged or defective. You will need a replacement or an upgrade, depending on the version you have. Please contact our Sales department for more information.
