This is an InstallShield error. To fix it, do the following:
- Go to the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield.
- Locate the subdirectory Professional in that directory and rename it. For example, change the folder name to profess_.
NOTE: Renaming this folder will not affect your PC’s functionality in any way.
- After renaming the folder, run the TinyTERM install again.

If you have upgraded from a previous Century Software, Inc., product, but that product is not currently installed, you do not need to install it. All our upgrades are actually new, full product sold at a reduced cost. You can install them with no prior products on the system.

You cannot copy the TinyTERM install directory to a new PC. You’ll get license errors if you do. You must install TinyTERM on the new PC from CD or download. Delete the files you copied over before running the install.

While trying to manually uninstall TinyTERM, you may find there are some files you cannot delete, such as CenLic32.dll. It’s caused when the file is in use by Windows.
When this happens, finish as much of the uninstall process as possible, then reboot the PC in safe mode. You will be able to delete the files then. Reboot again after deleting the files to return to normal mode.

To check the amount of time remaining on an evaluation install of TinyTERM, open its License Manager. Select the product you have installed in the Suites drop-down list. The Status line at the bottom will display the expiration date for the evaluation copy.

After uninstalling TinyTERM Plus, on reboot you may see load errors about mar_nfs.386 and ncdnp32.dll. To fix that, do the following:
- Open Windows Explorer or My Computer and remove any Century folder (C:\Century or C:\Program Files\Century).
- Go to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Remove any files or folders that start with _istmp.
- Search the C: drive for files named mar*.*. From the list of files found, delete the following:
- marathon.*
- marsetup.*
- mar_inet.exe
You may receive an error that this file is in use. If so, check the far right of the Start bar, next to the clock. If a hammer&wrench icon is there, right-click it and select Exit. You will then be able to delete mar_inet.exe
- Click the Start menu and select Programs. Delete any Century or TinyTERM Program group.
- Click Start and select Run. In the Open line, type regedit and click OK.
- In the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_Current_User\Software. Delete any “Century” or “NCD Software” folders found there.
- Still in the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_Local_Machine\Software. Delete any “Century” or “NCD Software” folders found there. Close the Registry Editor.
- Right click on Network Neighborhood and select Properties.
- Remove “Century NFS” and “Century Internet Services” from the list of installed network components
- Reboot your PC.

To add a full license to an evaluation copy of TinyTERM for Windows, do the following:
- Click on Start, then Programs, then TinyTERM.
- Run the License Manager.
- Click the Upgrade button.
- Enter your serial number and activation key.
- Click Update License.
- Close the License Manager.
To add a license to an evaluation copy of TERM for UNIX/Linux, the command is:
brand /usr/bin/term
Select option 2 to enter a serial number and activation key. They are case-sensitive.
If you have any problems with either licensing procedure, check the serial number and activation key for typographical errors. Also verify that the version of TinyTERM or TERM matches the version the license is for.

If you installed a demo of TinyTERM, then added a license later, it’s still possible to get a message that the evaluation is about to expire. If you then enter the license in License Manager again, it says, “This serial number and activation key have already been used.” If you just click OK on the error message, TinyTERM starts.
This can happen if you installed the demo for one TinyTERM product, such as TinyTERM Plus, but bought a different product. To fix it, right-click on the shortcut you’re using to start TinyTERM. Select Properties from the menu.
In the shortcut properties, go to the Shortcut tab. The Target line will read something like this:
“C:\Program Files\Century\TinyTERM\tt.exe” -P52 default
The -P52 option is the first three letters of the evaluation serial number. Change it to the first three letters of your serial number. For example:
“C:\Program Files\Century\TinyTERM\tt.exe” -E52 default
OK the changes, and you should not see the error any more. But if it does come back, you may need to edit the registry.

When installing TinyTERM from CD, you may get the message, “The specified path does not exist.” But the CD reads in My Computer without a problem.
This occasionally happens with some newer DVD-RW drives, particularly on laptop computers. To bypass the error, create an empty temporary directory on your hard drive. Copy the contents of the TinyTERM CD to that directory. Then boot the PC in safe mode. Run the hard drive copy of the install once the safe mode boot is complete.

There are several possible solutions to this error:
- If the version printed on the activation key card or listed in the license email does not match the install version, then this error will come up. Verify that the serial number you have matches the TinyTERM version you are installing. For example, older serial numbers will not work with the current TinyTERM download. And the serial number that comes with a TinyTERM CD is specific to that version of TinyTERM.
- Check the serial number and activation key for typographical errors. The serial number will always be 11 characters long: one to three letters, six to eight numerals, then two letters. No serial number ends in the letters “OEM”. The capital letter O will actually be the number zero in all cases. The activation key is always eight letters. Depending on the font, this may make the lower-case letter l look like the number 1. It’s never a number, though.
- When installing TinyTERM 4.52 from CD, you’re seeing a timing error. Despite what the install says, it’s not ready for the license yet.In this case, click the 30-Day Eval button instead. The install will continue from there. Once the install is done, go to Start | Programs | TinyTERM and run the License Manager.
In License Manager, click the Upgrade button. Enter your serial number and activation key, then click Update License. Close the License Manager. TinyTERM will then be licensed, rather than an eval copy.
- For a serial number that starts with the letters MMA, do not let the CD autorun. Instead, on the TinyTERM CD you’ll find a folder named “setup32_v33.” Run the setup.exe program in that directory instead. That will accept your license information.
