TinyTERM European Edition

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

When you go to TinyTERM’s Help menu and select “About,” it may show itself as “TinyTERM European Edition.” This does not mean you have the wrong product. The words “European Edition” are actually a holdover from TinyTERM 4.11, which was initially released in Europe.

“European Edition” was eventually removed from the Help | About dialog. Newer versions will just show “TinyTERM” there.

TAPI Error: Line Negotiate API Version Unhandled

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

This error means one of two things:

  1. Your version of TinyTERM is too old for your version of Windows. The version of TAPI is therefore too new for TinyTERM to use. Upgrading TinyTERM is the only solution.
  2. TinyTERM has a specific incompatibility with the modem. Update the modem drivers in this case.

If both TinyTERM and the modem drivers are up to date, you will need to dial the modem manually.

Flow Control in TinyTERM 4.20

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

When making an RS232 serial connection in TinyTERM 4.20, you will need to set all three flow control options in most cases. To do that, go to the Edit menu and select Session Properties. Next to the COM port is a Setup button. Click that to get to the flow control options. Make sure all three are checked, then save the settings.

CR 257, fixed in TinyTERM 4.21

Wrong Number of Arguments Passed to Function FTRecvX

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

This error is the result of a bug in TinyTERM 4.11. The only solution is to use a different version of TinyTERM.

TinyTERM 4.10 Doesn’t Change LPT Ports Automatically

Friday, March 16th, 2007

If your PC has more than one LPT (parallel) port, you can select any of them in TinyTERM. However, TinyTERM version 4.10 will not recognize the change until you save the session, then exit and restart TinyTERM.

There is no patch to fix this behavior. The only solution is to use a newer version of TinyTERM.

Wrong Number of Arguments Passed to FTRecv

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

This error is caused by a bug in TinyTERM 4.11. The only solution is to use a different version of TinyTERM.

Do Not Uninstall TinyTERM or TERM Professional 3.3

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Do not use the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility to uninstall version 3.3. It can erase your hard drive! Follow the manual uninstall instructions instead.

Actually, version 3.3 dated August 1999 or later can use Add/Remove Programs without a problem. So can the April 1997 release. But automatically uninstalling versions in between those can be disastrous.

German Help File not Found

Friday, March 9th, 2007

With TinyTERM’s display language set to German, the Help file may not come up. The workaround is to locate the ttus.hlp file in C:\Program Files\Century\TinyTERM and double-click it. This was fixed in version 4.12.

Data Capture Causes TinyTERM 4.04 to Crash

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Turning on data capture in TinyTERM 4.04 will cause it to crash and close, unless the Status Bar is turned off. To do that, go to the View menu and uncheck the “Status Bar” option.

The crash is caused by a bug in the butterfly net graphic that normally displays in the status bar. Other versions of TinyTERM do not have this problem. There is no patch available.

Can’t Enter a Line Turnaround Character

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

In the Session Properties for TinyTERM version 4.x, on the Session tab, there is a Setup button for the terminal emulation type. Clicking that brings up the “Emulation Setup” dialog.

The first line in that dialog is “IBM 3101/3151 turn around character.” In most cases this should be set to 13 (the ASCII value of the carriage return character) for the function keys in the IBM3151 emulation to work correctly.

TinyTERM version 4.04 will only accept a single digit in this field. To set it properly, you will need to edit your .tpx file manually, using Notepad or another text editor. Search for the line:

TurnChar=

Edit that to add the number 13 to the end of the line:

TurnChar=13

Save the changes and exit. If you open the “Emulation Setup” dialog after this and save any changes, you will need to make this manual edit again.
