How you get rid of the Marathon Internet Services icon in the system tray depends on your version of Windows. Regardless of the version, after you follow the procedure, the icon won’t load at startup any more.
Windows 95, 98 or Me
- Right-click on Network Neighborhood.
- Select Properties.
- Select Century Internet Services.
- Select Properties.
- Select the Options tab.
- Uncheck the “Start Internet Services at Windows 95/98 startup” option.
- Click on Apply, then OK.
Windows NT, 2000, XP or Vista
- Click on Start, then Programs or All Programs, then Startup.
- Right-click the “CenLPDstatus.exe” icon.
- From the pop-up menu, select Delete.
For these operating systems, you’ll probably want to stop the CenLPD service as well:
- Open the Control Panel.
- In Classic View, open the Administrative Tools.
- Open the Services applet.
- Double-click CenLPD.
- Change the “Startup type” to Disabled.
- Click OK, then close the Control Panel.
This prevents CenLPD from loading, saving both memory space and processor time.

When this happens, it means the original install did not complete properly. You will need to do the following:
- Manually uninstall all Tiny Term products.
- Reboot the PC.
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get the task manager. End all tasks except Systray and Explorer.
- Install TinyTERM again.
- When prompted to restart the computer, select No.
- Click Yes and OK on all other dialog boxes. Some dialog boxes may be behind others, so make sure to close these windows carefully.

After installing TinyTERM Plus or TERM Professional version 3.3 from the October 1998 CD, you may not see an option for the FTP Client, LPR Printing or NFS Server, though they should be installed. (NFS is only installed with TERM Professional.)
To resolve this, manually uninstall the current product and reboot. Next, install TERM Professional using the 30-day evaluation. Make sure that the correct components are check-marked.
We also suggest you change the TinyTERM install path. It defaults to C:\Program Files\Century. Change the path to C:\Century (delete Program Files).
Once installation is complete, run the License Manager and upgrade your license. You should now have FTP Client, LPR Printing and NFS Server.

It is sometimes possible to install TinyTERM or TERM over a previous version of the same software. Bu in general, Century Software, Inc., recommends you uninstall prior versions first. If the version of TERM or TinyTERM you have does not include an uninstall program, please see our instructions on uninstalling manually.

Do not use the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility to uninstall version 3.3. It can erase your hard drive! Follow the manual uninstall instructions instead.
Actually, version 3.3 dated August 1999 or later can use Add/Remove Programs without a problem. So can the April 1997 release. But automatically uninstalling versions in between those can be disastrous.

Some versions of TinyTERM Plus will cause VCFSD errors after install. This is caused by the NFS client.
When this happens, uninstall TinyTERM Plus and NetUtils. Delete the C:\Program Files\Century directory, then reboot the PC.
Once that’s done, you can reinstall TinyTERM Plus. Don’t install the NFS component of the Network Utilities, and you won’t see the error again.

When you start TinyTERM right after install, the screen can be completely blank. This most often happens when an earlier version of TinyTERM was installed on the PC, but not completely uninstalled. The existing fonts interfere with the install of the new fonts, causing the display problem. Restarting the PC will fix it.

For versions of TinyTERM for Windows that don’t have an uninstall option, or for those that will not uninstall properly, you can remove them manually with these steps:
- Open Windows Explorer or My Computer.
- Delete any Century or TinyTERM folder; e.g., C:\Century.
- Go into the Windows folder, C:\Windows or C:\Winnt.
- Delete any files named “marathon” or “marnfs” with any extension. Close the window when done.
- Right-click on the Start button and select Open.
- Browse the Programs group and remove any “Century Software” or “TinyTERM” items. Close the window when done.
- If using TinyTERM Plus, Plus[NFS] or TERM Professional, right-click the “Network Neighborhood” icon and choose Properties. Remove “Century NFS” and “Century Internet Services” if there. (They may also be listed as Marathon instead of Century.) Do not reboot when asked.
- Click on Start | Run and enter regedit, then click OK.
- Double-click HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then double-click Software under that.
- Delete any “Century Software” or “NCD Software” items there.
- Also in the registry, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and delete any Century Software or NCD Software items there, then close the Registry Editor.
- Close all windows and reboot the PC to finalize the uninstall.
To uninstall TERM or TinyTERM for DOS, just remove the directory it’s installed in. Then edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to remove the directory from the PATH variable.
To uninstall TERM for UNIX/Linux, remove the /usr/term directory. Then delete these three files from the /usr/bin directory: term, callin and callout.
If you installed TERM for Linux with a package manager such as rpm, uninstall it with the same utility. Refer to the utility’s man pages for specifics.
