If you use TinyTERM’s keyboard mapper to map a key to print the screen, the key does nothing. It doesn’t matter which of the available commands is used. The screen cannot be printed from a key.

Selecting Print Screen from TinyTERM’s File menu on Windows XP causes the error, “CSL Run Engine ActiveX Doc Object Server has encountered a problem and needs to close.” The customer who reported this can transparent print once, but after that transparent printing gives the same error.
Changing the printer did not help, nor did upgrading TinyTERM. This could only be duplicated on the original PC, no other on the customer’s network. Century Software, Inc., has also been unable to duplicate this.

Century Software, Inc., has had a request for the capability to “invert” the background color, so as to not waste printer toner, during screen prints. Thus, even with a black background on the display, the characters will print on a white background.
This is not necessary when using the Print Screen option on TinyTERM’s File menu. That already prints black text on a white background, no matter how the colors are configured. This option would only apply to graphical screen prints in Windows.

Century Software, Inc., has had a request to make TinyTERM work like any other web page when printing. Specifically, typing ^P should print everything from the beginning of the session to the current screen, rather than just the current screen.

You may need one set of printer settings when printing the TinyTERM screen, and a different set of settings when transparent printing. This cannot be set in TinyTERM. In particular, you may want to bypass the printer drivers for transparent printing, but not for print screen.
The workaround is to map a key to the following COMMAND:
te.printermode=20;te.printscreen();te.printermode=180;
This turns off the Bypass printer drivers option in Printer Setup, prints the screen, then turns the option back on. Change “180” to “148” in the command if Add Form Feed is not checked in Printer Setup.

Options set in TinyTERM Plus’ Printer Setup and Page Setup dialogs are ignored by TN3270 and TN5250 emulations. They always use the system defaults instead for print screens. This was fixed in TinyTERM 4.30.

The Printer Setup dialog fails in TinyTERM 4.20 after printing the screen in Windows 95 or 98. When this happens, the wrong printer will show in the Printer Setup drop-down list as well. This is fixed in TinyTERM 4.21.

Using TinyTERM 3.3 on Windows 95 or 98, printing the screen may require you to press the reset button on your printer before other applications can use it. To fix this, configure TinyTERM to print to PRINTMNGR instead of DEVICE. This will allow Windows to manage the printer, eliminating the need for you to reset it.

You may want to print the TERM or TinyTERM screen without going to the menus. In that case, you can remap a key to perform this function.
In TERM for UNIX, the F6 key is mapped to print by default. To change this, use the SETKEY script command. For example, to map printing to Shift-F6 instead, the command is:
SETKEY SF6 PRINT
In TinyTERM for DOS the Alt-P key prints the screen by default. To change this, type Alt-S for the Setup menu, then select Keyboard. Change the Print Screen line to the desired key.
There is no default key mapped to print screen in TERM for DOS. To change that, type Alt-K to get the keyboard settings. Change the Print Screen line there to the desired key.
TERM and TinyTERM for Windows require more steps:
- Open the keyboard editor.
- Click the Chart Open button.
- Click the F button in the upper right.
- Click and drag the word PRINT from the chart to the key you want to use; i.e., F8.
- Click the Chart Close button.
- Click the Set button.
- Click OK.
- Click the “Save As” button to give the new keyboard scheme a name. You can use an existing scheme name to replace it if you desire. But if you replace the “Default” scheme, there’s no way to restore it to its previous settings.
- Click on Apply and OK.

This error comes up sometimes when trying to print the TinyTERM 4.20 screen to a Windows printer. It only happens on Windows NT, 2000 or XP, and only in that version of TinyTERM.
The workaround is to use the Bypass printer driver option in TinyTERM’s Printer Setup. It’s also fixed in TinyTERM 4.21.
