Using TinyTERM 4.02, the modem dials, but it gets a high pitched sound and the remote party disconnects. There are known TAPI connectivity issues in that version. There is no patch. The only solution is to upgrade.

This error generally means the phone line used by the modem is in use or otherwise not working. Test it with another modem-using application, such as cu or HyperTerminal. If that gives the same or a similar error, check your phone lines. You may also need to reboot your PC.

If running a transparent print job causes TinyTERM to disconnect the modem, try printing to a file instead. This bypasses the Windows printer manager, which may be interfering.
If that does not help, TinyTERM has gotten corrupted. Uninstall it, then delete the directory. Reboot and reinstall TinyTERM.

In this situation, TinyTERM connects to a host via serial cable successfully. Another application on the PC then makes a modem connection. This causes the system to lock up completely.
Check the IRQs used by the serial port and modem. If both are trying to use one IRQ — or worse, one COM port — that will cause the lockup. Assign the modem its own IRQ.

TinyTERM and TERM for Windows can store multiple IP addresses and telephone numbers in a single configuration file. If you want to clean the list out, so it only shows one address or phone number, close TinyTERM. Open the .tap or .tpx file you’re using, such as default.tpx, in any text editor. Notepad or Wordpad will work.
Search for the line that starts “node=”. Delete everything after the equals sign =. Save the file and exit.
If there is one host address or phone number you want to save, make it the only entry after the =. Either way, the changes you made will take effect the next time you start TinyTERM.

TinyTERM is compatible with DSL and cable modems; however, they are very different from traditional analog modems. DSL and cable modems provide a direct connection to the Internet over existing cable or phone lines. They do not have the ability to dial a phone number.
In other words, you cannot use the Modem connection type within TERM or TinyTERM to dial a DSL or cable modem. You can only use the connection types that run over TCP/IP, such as SSH, Telnet, and Rlogin. If your connection requires that you dial a phone number to connect to your server, then you must have a traditional analog modem installed on your computer.

You may run into a situation where transparent printing works for a few pages of text, then gives a print error. After that the job may fail, or it may print one line per page. This is a flow control issue. Disable flow control on both the PC and the server port. Printing should work properly after that.

This error means no modem is installed in Windows. If the modem does appear to be installed, remove it and reinstall it.

Using TERM on AIX 3.2.5, you may have problems using modems. In particular, you may need to power the modem off and on after starting TERM for it to connect. Setup strings are the same (ATZ\r) for all three Motorola modems. To resolve this, apply the most recent AIX 3.2.5.5 service pack.

In TinyTERM version 4.x for Windows, you can have multiple IP addresses or telephone numbers in one .tpx file. For each phone number or address you want to use, open the Session Properties and enter it in the “Host name, IP address or phone number” line. Click OK, then save the session. Repeat this until you have entered them all. Make sure “Establish connection on open” is not checked.
To choose from the listed numbers, open the Session Properties. The “Host name, IP address or phone number” line will be a drop-down list, showing your multiple addresses and phone numbers. Select the one you want, then click OK. Connect as usual.
