Tech Tip: Maximize Screen Display
Question: The TinyTERM display is sometimes hard to read. Is there any way to make the display font larger?
Answer: From TinyTERM’s Edit menu, select Settings. In the Session Properties dialog, go to the Fonts tab. There are a few settings there that can help.
The first is the "Extend lines/columns when resizing" check box. With that set, you can set the font size, rather than letting TinyTERM resize it automatically. This will also change the number of rows and columns displayed as you change the size of the TinyTERM window.
If the host application requires a specific number of lines and columns set, usually the default values, manually changing the font size like this will eventually cause the text to go out of position. In a case like that, there are still two ways to adjust the font without changing the screen formatting.
The first is to maximize the screen area. Turning off everything under TinyTERM’s View menu removes most of the user interface, which means more usable screen area for the emulation. Century Software recommends leaving the Menu Bar in most cases, but that's not absolutely required. As long as TinyTERM is set to connect automatically, the user may never need it.
The other option is to change the actual font used, to one that the user can read more easily. TinyTERM uses its own TERM font by default. You can change that in the Session Properties on the Fonts tab. Click the TERM font in the list, then click the Down button once to make it the secondary font instead of the primary. This switches to the TermCS1 font.
You can also use the Add Font button to choose any system font. Monospaced fonts will work best. We usually recommend Lucida Console or Courier New. Your PC may have additional options. Click the Add Font button to select the font, then highlight it and click the Up button to move it to the top of the list.
